It’s interesting to note that the children of Israel actually left Egypt armed. Verse 17b – 18 in the Amplified Version reads – “The people might change their minds when they see war [that is, that there will be war], and return to Egypt.” 18 But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea; the sons of Israel went up in battle array (orderly ranks, marching formation) out of the land of Egypt.

God notes that despite their being armed and arranged in orderly ranks (battle ready), they were not prepared to fight their way through. They were physically ready but at the same time in a state of unpreparedness in their minds, so he would not lead them through the land of the Philistines (hostile and unreceptive people), though the nearest or shortcut or most direct route out of Egypt.

Again, God is Omniscient (All knowing), He knows our feeble frame even at times when we think that we are ready and armed to the tooth to take on a challenge or tread a path that’s the most direct route to our (perceived) desired future or destiny.

Fellow soldier, oh yes you are armed tooth and nail to go that route (to take that job, to get that promotion,….), but, follow God’s lead still; He knows you more than you know yourself; He is good to you more than you can ever be to yourself.

Romans 8.27b-28(MSG) He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
