That God would not lead His own people, who by his mighty hand he freed from the captivity of many years, through a nearer/shorter route on their journey out of the land of bondage to freedom, is really mind boggling. Who doesn’t like shorter routes on a journey to a better place having been through a rigorous, trying and tiring place or experience? It is really in the good nature of God that he ensures His children do not go through nearer routes a.k.a shortcut on (some of) their journey out from the place of trials and tribulations.
The Collins Dictionary defines the term “Philistine” as a person who is unreceptive or hostile. Because God is omniscient (All Knowing) in His ways, He knew not to lead His people through the land of the Philistines, although a nearer route out of Egypt but filled with hostile and unreceptive people that would wage a war against them. He knew the unpreparedness of His people to fight a war at that early time and season on their journey and how that they would without doubts, turn back and embrace with open arms, the place of bondage and oppression that they know too well, but this was far from the scheme God had mapped out.
God’s ways and plans for us are indeed mighty-higher than we can imagine. In His Omniscient nature, He aligns times and seasons in our favour and would therefore sometimes lead us through longer routes that we cannot fully comprehend on our journey; ours is just to yield to and follow His lead however time-wasting, discomforting, or even unnecessary they might seem to us. He sees the ending right from the very beginning of things and has a good grand plan for us.
Fellow soldiers, do the endurance walk, embrace patience on that journey to the place of God’s promise; He is “Ekueme”, If He’s promised it, He’ll surely take you there!

(KJV) Hebrews 10.35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
